Google Takes Me Back To White Rock Lake In Dallas
Is everyone with a Google account getting these daily emails purporting to be photos of memories tied to a specific day, which usually make no sense?
At least today I do remember the location in the photos, which often is not the case.
The above are all photos of White Rock Lake in Dallas.
Earlier this century I frequently frequented White Rock Lake and the park which surrounds the lake.
This is an extremely popular location. A paved trail goes all around the lake. It reminded me of Green Lake in Seattle, with White Rock Lake being a bigger lake with a much longer trail around it.
I have roller bladed all the way around White Rock Lake, and Green Lake. White Rock Lake was a bit more challenging to roller blade than the flat trail surrounding Green Lake.
In the photos above I am not certain who that is in the upper right photo. It looks like one of the Goober Twins, but I can not tell if it is Wally or Big Ed.
A dam damming a creek is what creates White Rock Lake. When a lot of rain falls the lake spills over the dam's spillway with a rather spectacular waterfall.
It has been so long I wonder if I could find my way to White Rock Lake again. I think the last time I was there was when mom and dad made their final visit, back in January of 2009.
Go to the White Rock Lake webpage I made years ago and you'll see photos of the various scenes you see at White Rock Lake...

Lamenting No Rockin' The Trinity River In Dallas While J.D.Granger Delivers For The River In Fort Worth
This past Thursday marked the return of the Trinity River Vision Boondoggle's, I mean, Panther Island Boondoggle's World Famous Rockin' the River Happy Hour Inner Tube Floats in Fort Worth's crystal clear Trinity River.
More on that later in this blogging, but first I must mention that this morning I learned via an article in the Dallas Observer titled 10 Dallas Places We'd Like to See Host Concerts that there are some people, well, at least one, that being the writer of this article, who wants to close the river floating gap between Fort Worth and Dallas.
On the list of 10 was #5, which you see screencapped above and copied below...
5. The Trinity River Basin
Fort Worth is way ahead of Dallas when it comes to making the banks of the Trinity a legitimate destination for concerts, drinking and various forms of revelry. Screw the city council, screw the naysayers. Let's take advantage of the dry summer conditions and get a stage up between Fuel City and the Oak Farms Dairy for some serious, urban park-style entertainment. If it rains and floods a bit, grab some inner tubes and let's float this sucker. Get your tetanus shots first, and then stop worrying. There's a fancy bridge for a nice backdrop and it doesn't always smell that bad. Let's close the Trinity-As-Entertainment gap that lies between us and the Panther City, Dallas!
The only part of the above which sounds to me like a good idea is the tetanus shot suggestion. Methinks White Rock Lake would be a much better location in Dallas for Rockin' the Lake Happy Hour Inner Tube Floats.
Which leads me to change the subject and ask, why is swimming not allowed in White Rock Lake? It always looks so inviting, to me, swimming-wise, certainly more so than the Trinity River.
Now, changing the subject back to Fort Worth's Rockin' of the Trinity River.
This morning someone named Anonymous made a couple comments regarding an aspect of Thursday's Trinity River Inner Tube Float....

That is the #74 photo of Master Granger to which Anonymous refers, below, with that being Master Granger on the left.

#74...needs a bra.
Well.
Looking at the photo I can see why Anonymous has made the bra suggestion, but as a full-figured fellow myself, I take umbrage at someone making such a rude remark....

Thanksgiving Turkey Trot In Dallas

Tomorrow Dallas is going to try and beat the Oakland Raiders in Arlington. Dallas never plays football in Dallas, which means Dallas never plays a home game. Dallas played football in Arlington this past Sunday. Tony Romo was slightly hurt. Four days is not much recovery time between games. Or so I would think.
Tomorrow's Turkey Trot in Dallas started way back on Thanksgiving of 1968. I believe that the original race ran from White Rock Lake to downtown Dallas. The current version of the Turkey Trot starts downtown at the Dallas City Hall and runs an 8K or 5K route in the downtown zone. Why the run is not around White Rock Lake, I do not know.
Back in 1968, in Dallas, there were few runners, that fad had not hit this part of the country yet. Now, 41 years later, the Turkey Trot, officially known by its sponsor's names as the Capital One Bank Dallas YMCA Turkey Trot, is one of the biggest, if not the biggest, race of its sort in America.
Over 37,000 runners, 15,000 spectators and 2,000 volunteers will be joining me at the Turkey Trot.
Running should work up a good appetite for a big feeding of turkey and other goodies tomorrow. See you in Dallas.
