We're behind the bars of my patio prison cell, looking out at the November 5 darkness.
It is a cold Friday morning here in the semi-deep South. 40 degrees.
Meanwhile, right now up in balmy, semi-tropical Seattle, it is 54.
When is this Daylight Savings Time nonsense going to end so the sun can be scheduled to arrive earlier?
It seems like usually Daylight Savings Time is gone by now.
I got up on the wrong side of the bed and banged my head against the wall, thus resulting in a slight headache this morning.
I don't know if the pool is going to be doable this morning. 40 degrees is getting a bit too chilly.
Speaking of chilly, I think I'll make chili today. Chili is a good thing on a cold day.

Seeing Fog While Watching For Flash Floods In Fort Worth

So far, no Flash Flood, very little rain, with this morning looking more like a Flash Fog than Flood.
As in I was slightly drizzled on when I went swimming this morning, making it seem like I was near the ocean, swimming, rather than 100s of miles from the nearest saltwater.
According to the almost thoroughly discredited weather forecasters, rain and thunderstorms are possible today.
With it being like a stereotypical Pacific Northwest winter day out there, except for being 75, I'm making a warm me up in winter type thing this morning.
That would be a big pot of chili. It will go good with this humongous loaf of something called Artisan Jumbo County Whole Wheat Bread. I got the Jumbo Bread at Town Talk yesterday. I've never seen a loaf of bread like this before. It weighs over 3 pounds.
Cheese finally returned to Town Talk yesterday. The chili with cheese will be ready about 1 this afternoon. Don't be late for lunch.

Heavy Rains Bring Floods To Texas While I Make Chili

Due to this sudden winter type weather, as in it is only 69 out there at 10 Saturday morning, I decided I wanted to make chili, hence the Wal-Mart trip.
It was not much colder than it is currently when I went swimming in the rain this morning.
I have not heard from the Haltom City Fossil Creek flood monitor this morning. I imagine she had a long night of creek watching. The bad weather canceled some Friday night Texas high school football games.
I don't know if today's bad weather has led to the cancellation of the 9/12 protest march and rally in downtown Fort Worth. I think it starts at 2 or 3 in the afternoon. Maybe it will dry up by then. We are under a Flash Flood Watch til Sunday.
South of here, flooding shut down Interstate 35 between Austin and Salado for a few hours. South of here got way more rain than we have, so far.
Obviously there will be no regularly scheduled Saturday Tandy Hills hike today. I don't know what I'm going to do.
Just checked the chili. It's done. Turned out well. Come over for lunch.

World's Tallest Cow Not Texan

Chili stands 6 feet 6 inches tall in his bare feet. That is taller than me in my bare feet.
Currently Chili's tall status is not official. The Guinness people are investigating.
Chili weighs over a ton. That is 5,510 8 oz. steaks or 11,020 McDonald's Quarter Pounders. He is a black and white Friesian steer. I'm not all that farm familiar, but I'm fairly certain that a steer has had his gender neutralized, so, I'm thinking that would make Chili no longer a he, I guess 'it' would be more appropriate.
The UK is smaller than Texas. It almost seems some sort of state disgrace for Texas not to have the world's tallest cow.
Currently the largest cow on record is American. A Holstein-Durham named Mount Katahdin. That cow stood 6 feet 2 inches with a girth of 13 feet. I'm not sure what a girth is. Mount Katahdin died in 1923. Seems odd that in all those years, til now, no cow has grown taller than Mount Katahdin.
Surely, somewhere in Texas there must be a cow taller than 6 feet 6 inches. Let the search begin.
UPDATE: A Texan has now claimed to have discovered the Tallest Cow in the World.
