Stormy Rainstorm Thunder Booming Friday In Wichita Falls
You are looking out my kitchen window, through a wall of rain, copiously coating the outer world with a thick layer of wet.
And surrounding my abode with a moat requiring a careful crossing to get to my motorized means of motion, to drive to Walmart to dodge roof leaks and get some endorphins via aerobic stimulation whilst enjoying the Walmart anthropological displays.
Rain has been falling, off and on, with varying intensity, since before midnight, last night. Along with some loud thunder booms.
So far, no tornado or hail action.
The dire change of weather at my location the past week bodes ill for the coming winter. It is already seeming like winter.
I do find the sound of raindrops dripping fast to be relaxing, though a bit loud, at times, like right now.

Soon To Be Likely Wetter Than Normal In Wichita Falls
Forecast forecasting the possible incoming rain in a couple days.
The area in the darker green apparently is predicted to get the wettest, as in 'LIKELY WETTER THAN NORMAL', including drought-stricken Wichita Falls.
I can not remember when last any rain dripped on my location. I think we have been dry all of October.
This month we had one short bout of fall-like cool weather, followed by the return of summer-like HOT weather.
I am looking forward to being cool way more than I remember any time previous...

Drippy Texas Tuesday Downpouring
The drippy early Tuesday afternoon view from my kitchen window.
Rain was not predictably scheduled to arrive in copious amounts today.
But copious amounts of falling water has arrived, currently in downpour mode.
Walmart was my walking venue this morning. At that point in time, that which later became a downpour was in drizzle mode.
Well, drizzle mode on the drive to Walmart, downpour mode when exiting Walmart a half hour later.

Another Sleep Disrupting Thunderstorm In The Wichita Falls Disaster Area
Last night, around three in the morning, thunder booming began, after lightning lit up the darkness. This lasted for hours, along with copious amounts of rain hitting the ground.
I was able to sleep through some of it.
The sun has been doing its daily illuminating duty for about an hour, but it still looks dark, rain is still dripping, thunder continues to boom, off and on.
Yesterday we learned, surprisingly, that Wichita County has been declared a Disaster Area due to recent rains doing damage, none of which I have eye witnessed.
I assume the current drenching is amplifying the Disaster Area into being even More Disastrous.
Walmart will be my venue today for acquiring endorphins via high speed walking and anthropological observations...

Day Two Raining Hard In Wichita Falls Necessitates Umbrella Search
Second day in a row with the morning view from my kitchen window being a look out at a raging downpour. Even though thunderstorming has been in the forecast the past three days I have not seen a single bolt of lightning or hear a single thunder clap.
I was planning on driving to the library this morning.
But, that may be contingent on locating where my umbrella is currently hiding.
With the rain pouring down at its current copious rate, one gets totally soaked in less than a minute. I do not like getting soaked.
The warm temperature and all this rain has amped up the humidity. Which has necessitated a return to running the A/C.
The downpour has let up a bit. Maybe I won't need to locate an umbrella...

Hours Of Rain Brings Areal Flooding To Wichita Falls
The weather forecaster's forecast arrived as forecast, but, so far, without the thunderstorm part of the forecast.
I began hearing the pitter patter of raindrops around three in the morning. The pitter pattering has continued ever since.
My abode is currently in surrounded by a moat mode.
I think I may be able to make it to my vehicle without using the inflatable kayak.
The wet look above is via my kitchen window, coming up on 9 in the morning.
The National Weather Service issued an Areal Flood Warning through tomorrow.
I finally got around to looking up what Areal means. Well. It is the adjective form of area. So, all Areal Flood Warning means is a large area might experience flooding.
So, I am experiencing some Areal Flooding in the form of that aforementioned moat...

Finally A Wichita Falls Flash Flooding Downpour Thunderstorm
This morning I went walking with Linda Lou in the Lawrence Street Walmart. Whilst walking Linda Lou asked me about the weather. I told Linda Lou heavy rain and thunderstorms were predicted, but currently we remain under a clear blue cloud-free sky.
And then, around 5 this afternoon, without Linda Lou, I drove the short distance to the Greenbrier Walmart. By then rain was beginning to drip. And I saw lightning striking in the distance.
By the time I got to Walmart rain was falling in a greater volume than the drippage was dripping when I began my short journey.
I was barely in Walmart when my phone acted up, warning me about an eminent dangerous thunderstorm.
Soon rain began pounding the Walmart roof like thousands of hammers, with bass drum booms from lightning strikes.
It was extremely noisy in Walmart.
After being in the store for only a few minutes, it was checkout time. The rain was then coming down in downpour flashflood mode. A crowd of people stood at the exit, apparently hoping for the drenching to end.
But, I like a good soaking, so I took off running, at high speed. By the time I got to my vehicle I was as drenched as if I'd jumped in a swimming pool.
The photo at the top is looking south through my thoroughly wet windshield.
From this high speed running I realized that all the walking I have done the past year has me in way better shape than I realized. I think excessive walking must be much better exercise than bike riding.
By the time I got back under my carport the drenching seemed to have amped up. My abode was already in surrounded by a moat mode.
I decided, since I was already totally soaked, that I'd take off running again, going the long way around, where the moat is not as deep.
The rain has slowed. I expect to soon see a rainbow...

Third Day Of May Thunder & Rain
Just as I was readying myself to exit my abode for my daily constitutional of doing some high-speed walking at one of the various park venues at my location, thunderbolts began striking the ground, followed by rain pouring down in copious amounts.
The view you see photo documented above is what it looks like to look out my computer room window on this drippy morning of the third day of May.
The dripping is not predicted to last long, but, it was also not predicted to begin dripping til later this afternoon. So, methinks we may be having way more drippage than that which was predicted.
I like this type weather. It is like a stereotypical Western Washington winter day. Gray and wet. Not too hot, not too cold...

Dark Stormy Thunder Booming Flooding Wednesday At My Wichita Falls Location
The stormy view out my computer room window this morning of the final Wednesday of the 2023 version of April.
Rain has been falling copiously in downpour mode ever since today dawned dark and noisy with thunder booms closely following lightning flashes.
Flooding has made the moat that forms when too much rain falls the most moat I have seen since I have been at this location.
The moat necessitates taking a detour, through some puddling, to make it to my vehicle's location, under cover, in the carport.
Any nature communing in walk mode will need to happen in Walmart today.
Nature communing in Walmart takes the form of fast walking the aisles whilst being in anthropologic observation mode making note of all the bizarre iterations of humanity who populate the Walmart closest to my home location...

Day Two Of Rain In Wichita Falls Now With Lightning Strikes
On this second Wednesday of the second month of 2023 the view out my kitchen window is even more dismal than yester morning's drippy dismal view.
And this morning's rain has lightning strikes and thunder booms in the mix.
Blue sky is scheduled to return this afternoon.
Two days of this and I am beginning to be SAD. As in Seasonally Affected Disorder type SAD....

Rain Flooding Post-Thanksgiving Saturday In Texas
Looking out my bedroom window on the dawn of the day after the day after Thanksgiving, which is also known as Saturday, the outer world at my location is drenched from hours of rain.
The exit from my abode is currently flooded.
If I want to use my mechanized means of motion it will entail taking a circuitous route to get to the vehicle, unless I want to put on hip waders to walk dry through the moat.
The dripping is scheduled to drip all day long, so there will be no outer world walking today, unless it is under an umbrella.
It has been a couple days since I have walked in any of my favorite walking venues, unless one counts Walmart as such.
Yesterday, Black Friday, I ventured to the nearby Walmart expecting it to be super busy.
It wasn't.
But there were a lot of Black Friday deals clogging the aisles.
One of which was a combo cooking device in the form of an air fryer, rotisserie, dehydrator.
My air fryer died a few weeks ago. I've been missing it. And so, I got that Black Friday air fryer, rotisserie, dehydrator from Walmart yesterday.
Today's wet weather is reminding me of a stereotypical fall winter type day in my old home zone of Western Washington, where today snow is on the Pacific Northwest weather menu, in the mountains, and possibly in the Puget Sound lowlands.
I am hoping my current location makes it through the cold months with zero snow.
What I hope for usually does not happen.
Usually, the opposite of what I hope for happens.
So, my location will likely get buried in a blizzard with near zero temperatures...

Rain Driven Walmart Fast Walking
Rain began dripping this Monday morning soon after the sun began its regular illumination duty. It is now past noon and the dripping continues.
So, today, my daily doctor ordered fast walking could not take place in one of my regular outdoor venues, so it was to Walmart I drove for some fast grocery cart pushing on the aisles of Walmart.
That would be the Walmart parking lot you are looking at through my vehicle's water covered windshield.
Currently the temperature is 39 degrees Fahrenheit. A few degrees colder and we'd be looking at snow.
I do not want to be looking at snow...

Friday Rain Floods My Location Along With A Lot Of Thunder
Rain arrived, as per prediction, last night, along with the also predicted thunderstorming. Several hours into daylight the rain continues to rain down upon us.
Rain down upon us in amounts so copious that my primary exit route to my vehicle is flooded, which is what you are looking at in the photo documentation, looking down from my elevated patio vantage point.
I think this is the highest I have seen my exit route flood since I have been being flooded at my current location.
It may be possible to get to my vehicle, dry, via another route.
I think I will just be content to stay indoors until the rain abates...

Monday Morning Rainy Day In North Texas
It is a dark and stormy Monday morning at my North Texas location.
So far no thunderbooming, but strong wind gusts are blowing rain sideways.
In the view above we are looking west out of one of my living room windows.
The rain has already flooded my primary access route to the carport.
I need to make my way to the carport this morning to drive to the library to replenish my book supply.
This is the first heavy rain in many months. I don't know if one rainstorm can end a drought, but it seems it should put a dent in it...

Raindrops Falling On My Head With No Thunder Booming
An hour before noon on this third Sunday of the 2022 version of October I exited my abode intending to drive to Sikes Lake for a fast walk with the geese.
However.
By the time I reached the carport, rain was falling semi-copiously, so my driving direction upon leaving the carport switched from heading north, to heading south, and then east, to Walmart, to do some high speed grocery cart pushing.
As you can see via looking past the raindrops splattered on the windshield, I was not the only person slogging through the rain to stay dry in the air-conditioned comfort of Walmart.
A 30% chance of thunderstorms is also on the weather menu for today. But, so far, no bright streaks of light or loud booming have been seen or heard.

Staying Dry During Monday Morning Texas Deluge
You are looking at the wet stormy view from my kitchen window on the Monday morning of the 2022 version of August.
Rain began dripping yesterday, increasing in intensity as the dripping dripped hour after hour.
Driving by Sikes Lake, late Sunday afternoon, I saw the lake is back full of water, with no dry desert-like land exposed, unlike Saturday, when much of the lake was dried up.
I do not know, yet, if I can make it to my vehicle without requiring hip waders to make it dry to its location. I do not recollect, previously, seeing so much water surrounding my abode.
If I am able to make it to my vehicle, in a couple hours I will see if I can drive to Lake Wichita and see if water is flowing over that lake's dam spillway for the first time in a real long time...

The First Friday Of June Dawns Wet & Loud In Wichita Falls
When I opened my bedroom window blinds this morning my eyes were struck by multiple lightning bolts in the distance. So distant I heard no thunder resulting from those multiple lightning bolts.
Two hours later what you see above is the view from my kitchen window. A downpour of rain is pouring down. You can see the downpour, but you can not see that the lightning bolts have moved closer, close enough now to have the thunder sound effect arrive soon after seeing a lightning bolt.
I looked out my abode's exit a few minutes ago and saw that rain has already arrived so copiously that I am now surrounded by a moat. I suspect I will not be leaving my abode until the moat drains enough to allow a semi-dry access to my motorized motion device, which is keeping dry under the carport.
This morning's storm was not on the menu when I checked the weather forecast yesterday. This morning the weather menu had changed to suggesting some rain with possible thunderstorming might be happening this morning.
All this water will be making for some extreme humidity when blue sky and the sun return...

Rainy Day Tuesday With Leaking Walmart
The predicted rain rained as predicted, this morning of the next to last Tuesday of the 2022 version of May.
The rain rained down in copious amounts. By the time I left my abode, around noon, my regular route to my motorized motion device was blocked by a small lake.
The wet view through the windshield was how it looked in the Walmart parking lot, after I parked, after getting gas.
As you can see, gas is still under 4 bucks a gallon at my location. I do not recollect ever previously it costing almost a hundred bucks to fill the tank.
I remember filling the tank of my 65 Mustang for less than five bucks, a long long long time ago.
What is wrong with Walmart roofs that causes leaks anytime it rains hard? I have never seen so many leak catching buckets catching leaks as what I saw in Walmart today.
Do the Washington Walmart roofs leak when it rains? Walmart had only recently arrived when I moved to Texas from Washington.
I doubt today's deluge will put an end to the current drought.
I am enjoying hearing the pitter patter and occasional thunder claps.
And it has been nice being back in long pants and flannel long sleeved shirts, again, with what will likely be a short lived return to winter...

Wichita Falls Downpour Floods Moat Around My Location
After day after day of rain predicted, with few drops dripping, this morning, on this second Monday of August, multiple downpour episodes have resulted in a moat surrounding my location, as you can sort of see via the view from one of my living room windows, with my bike managing to stay dry, due to zero wind blowing rain sideways.
This August morning is reminding me of what a typical winter day is like in the Western Washington Puget Sound zone.
Day after day of a gray sky with water dripping, at times, all day long.
Day after day.
I had a horrific bout of insomnia last night. First time such has happened in a long time. No clue as to the cause, but I am exhausted, with this gloomy weather being a perfect fit for my mood.
If, or when, the rain stops, and the moat subsides, I may venture out to the Circle Trail to see if Holliday Creek is running a lot of water. The turtles, egrets and fish should be happy...

Dallas Fort Worth In Running For America's Rainiest City Reputation
I saw that which you see here this morning on the front page of the online version of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and thought the headline to be amusing.
On Wednesday I found myself driving west on Randol Mill Road in Fort Worth, slowed to a crawl due to a heavy downpour. Rain fell at varying volume during the entire drive to the DFW zone.
In early February I was talking to a Wichita Falls banker and mentioned I was heading to Arizona the next day. I don't remember why but the subject of rain came up. The banker said his uncle was wanting him to move to Seattle, but the banker was resistant to that idea due to all the rain.
The all the rain remark had me telling the banker that that Seattle rain thing is mostly myth. That it is more the day after day after day of cloudy overcast which can get tiring, along with periods of slow motion rain, often in drizzle mode.
When I was in Arizona we had one day of solid gray no blue sky with rain. I remarked to Miss Daisy that this is being like a winter day in Washington. And that the gray sky totally ruined the usual Arizona color scheme.
Today's article about rain in the Star-Telegram surprised me by also making mention of the Seattle rain reputation being inaccurate...
While February's 11.31 inches of rainfall at Dallas/Fort Worth Airport obliterated the monthly record by almost 4 inches, it also put Seattle to shame. Seattle, long and inaccurately rumored as the nation's rainiest city, measured a mere 2.16 inches in February, according to the National Weather Service. That's only 1.34 inches below normal. Back at DFW, February’s rainfall was off the charts.
