Monday morning was blue. Tuesday morning is gray in my zone of North Texas, at least as viewed from one of my viewing portals on the outdoor world.
It is currently 75 degrees, heading to a predicted high of 92. From the look of the sky I would guess rain and possible thunderstorms were coming my way, but that is not the forecast, which is breezy with sunny intervals.
This morning I read that one of the people wanting to be mayor of Fort Worth, Cathy Hirt, says that she will likely, if elected, get rid of the stocks she and her husband, Darrell, have in 5 of the gas drillers poking holes in Fort Worth.
Cathy Hirt said owning stocks in those 5 gas drilling companies could raise conflicts of interest issues.
Apparently Cathy Hirt has not heard that Fort Worth City Attorney, David Yett, ruled years ago that Fort Worth's current corrupt mayor, Mike Moncrief's, $600,000 income from gas drillers, poking holes in Fort Worth, did not constitute any conflict of interest.
I guess it is a good thing that Fort Worth has someone running for mayor who understands that conflicts of interest are not a good thing.
Jim Lane says if he gets elected mayor he will closely monitor the Barnett Shale operations. I wonder how much money he makes each year from the gas drillers poking holes in Fort Worth?
It is time for me to stop wondering about conflicts of interest and go swimming to take my mind off of that which perplexes me.

Thanking Departing Despot Mike Moncrief For Making Fort Worth The Best Place To Live On The Planet
There was a letter to the editor in this morning's Fort Worth Star-Telegram that I could not tell if the letter writer was making some sort of sarcastic joke or not.
The letter writer was thanking Fort Worth's departing despot, Mayor Mike Moncrief, for the amazingly wonderful job he has done as mayor, overseeing the poking of thousands of holes in his town, from which the departing despot profited hugely due to his ability to skirt by the ethics violations in the form of the mayor's rather obvious conflicts of interest, that would likely have the mayor in jail by now if Fort Worth was a city in the United States.
Below is the perplexing letter...
Thanks, Mayor Mike
Thank you, Mayor Mike Moncrief, for making Fort Worth the best place to live on the planet. Maybe we could send a carload of TCU players to bring you back in time for the May 14 election. We're sure going to miss your positive leadership. I am proud to say you still have my vote.
-- Steve McCans, Fort Worth
Mayor Mike Moncrief made Fort Worth the best place to live on the planet? What planet is this person speaking of? This person is suggesting a carload of TCU players kidnap the mayor so that he can continue his reign? Positive leadership? Has this person not seen a Fort Worth City Council meeting presided by the departing despot?

Looking At The Envy Of The Nation From On Top Of Mount Tandy Thinking Good God This Town Has An Idiot For A Mayor
I was not able to get outside for any salubrious walking until after 4 this afternoon. I decided to go to the Tandy Hills, even though I was fairly certain the trails would not be dried out, I figured I could do some cross-prairie hiking.
I figured right.
In the picture you are looking west across the prairie on top of Mount Tandy. In the distance you can see the stunning skyline of beautiful downtown Fort Worth, you know that town that recently became the Envy of the Nation because a school in the town won the Rose Bowl.
I learned this morning that in the same batch of utterings where Fort Worth's Moron Mayor, Mike Moncrief, told the people listening to him, at a celebration for TCU's Rose Bowl win, that that win made Fort Worth the Envy of the Nation, that additionally, apparently, the mentally challenged mayor also spewed out some profanity that offended the delicate sensibilities of some of the Texas Christian University Christians in the crowd.
I do not know what exactly the mayor said, but whatever it was, some considered it to be a case of taking the Good Lord's name in vain.
Am I the only person in this town who thinks Fort Worth would be well rid of this sad excuse for a mayor? I've given up on the idea that the dishonorable mayor is ever going to get in any trouble for his conflicts of interest violations, making millions from the gas drillers operating in his town.
Maybe with Fort Worth being part of the Buckle of the Bible Belt, the dishonored mayor will be run out of town for taking the Lord's name in vain. In these parts this may be a worse crime than making big bucks violating conflicts of interest laws.

Fort Worth's Corrupt Mayor Mike Moncrief Puts His Conflicts Of Interest On Display Again

Since then Moncrief has not only not been jailed, he has won re-election with 94% of Fort Worth's eligible voters feeling so marginalized that they didn't bother to vote, giving Moncrief a whopping 70% landslide of the 6% who did vote.
In recent days we have had fresh examples of why there are Conflicts of Interest laws in America. Even in Texas. With Fort Worth's mayor, again, outrageously putting his corruption on display for anyone caring to look, to see.
Well, Fort Worth's #1 Watchdog was watching. Below is what he had to say about Fort Worth's mayor's latest criminal behavior....
Unicorn Discovered on Dark Side of Moon
If you believe that line of BS then you'll most likely swallow the report delivered by John Sadler of the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to the Fort Worth City Council yesterday. If not, read on.
The mayor had requested the TCEQ study after the many recent news reports of toxic emissions coming from Barnett Shale gas facilities. He wanted to know specifically about such facilities in FW proper. Knowing the mayor as we do, he really wanted to end any talk of health and safety concerns or moratoriums in FW. This was a foregone conclusion shared by those who have been paying attention.
The pre-council session where the report was given was well attended by industry reps, notably, Walter Duease, point man for XTO and Ed Ireland of the Barnett Shale Energy Education Council (BSEEC), both of whom are involved in the Marcellus and other shale regions and both of whom have cozy relationships with city council and staffers.
The highlight reel-
1) Regarding salt-water injection wells in Fort Worth, city staffer, Susan Alanis made a point of saying that there have been no problems regarding public health and safety with the one injection located well in Fort Worth. This point was intended to prepare the public for new injection wells and a web of "salt-water" pipelines that will soon snake through FW neighborhoods.
2) We were told by another city staffer that a private meeting was held on January 5, 2010 to discuss the growing public discomfort with urban drilling. Invitees included reps from, TCEQ, Texas RRC, City of FW, Texas Pipeline Assoc., BSEEC and four drilling companies. NO neighborhood groups were included. Can you say, marginalized?
3) City Council reps nodded enthusiastically to Sadler's comment that, "ambient conditions" existed before drilling. That's code for: Blame something else. Drilling is not the problem. (May I remind you again that FWCanDo requested ambient air and water studies from the city attorney in 2005. Her answer came with a devilish smile: No thanks.)
4) Testing was done in less than ideal conditions to achieve the result desired by the mayor and drillers. The result: No benzene. No carcinogens. No VOC's coming from Fort Worth gas wells facilities. How else to explain the increasingly smoggy air over FW? see #3 above.
5) Near the end of the meeting, with media cameras rolling and reporters scribbling away, the mayor asked Mr. Sadler two well-rehearsed, drama-filled questions:
a. Are you convinced the industry is using best management practices? Answer: YES.
b. Do you see any need for issuing a moratorium on gas well drilling in FW? Answer: NO.
> > > Remember the Jack Nicholson movie, Chinatown? Recall the last scene of the film when private detective, Jake "JJ" Gittes is confronted with the fact that the police have been bought-off and that a killer and child molester has been allowed to go free. An angry and distraught Jake stares into space as his partner delivers the final line of the film:
Forget it Jake, this is ... Texas.

Fort Worth Mayor Moncrief Sprouts Horns While Practicing Crony Capitalism & Ignoring All His Conflicts Of Interest

Mayor Moncrief oversees meetings where policy is made regarding things like permits to drill for natural gas in the Barnett Shale.
Moncrief is part of forming policy from which he monetarily benefits.
In other parts of America, and the world, this is what is known as a Conflict of Interest.
A Conflict of Interest exists when a person is in a position where he is entrusted with impartiality, as in a Mayor is supposed to look out for the public he serves, not himself.
In America, except Fort Worth, a Mayor with Conflicts of Interest would either recuse himself from being any part of policy making, from which he might benefit, or shed himself of whatever is causing the Conflict of Interest. In Moncrief's case that would mean selling his shares of all the Barnett Shale gas drilling companies he holds an interest in. Or recusing himself when his Conflicts of Interest come in to play.
The need for such a recusal depends on the nature of the Conflict of Interest. If it is a trivial matter, no need to recuse. If it is a serious matter, as in something like being part of making decisions about how far from a residence a well can be drilled, or what sort of safety precautions must be taken, or what sort of pollution controls must be installed, or where a pipeline can be located, well, in that type circumstance a Mayor, with a Vested Interest that Conflicts with his duties as Mayor of the People, must recuse himself.
Failure to do so, and subsequently hugely profiting from the gas drillers activities, well, in the rest of America, like I've already said, more than once. Jail time and a huge fine.
The fact that these Conflicts of Interest are allowed to happen, in Fort Worth, has perplexed me for years now. There is a political science term, well, I'm pretty sure it's a political science term, of a certain type of capitalist economy called Crony Capitalism.
Crony Capitalism is what runs way too much of Fort Worth. It's how Fort Worth ends up with things like Cabela's, sold on promises, never delivered. Crony Capitalism is a deviation of a democratic capitalist economy. Crony Capitalism occurs where success in business requires a too close relationship between those in business and government officials.
For instance, say you are in the gas drilling business. You know there is going to be a huge play on this thing called the Barnett Shale. You know that a large part of the Barnett Shale lies under a large city called Fort Worth. You know a few years into drilling the Barnett Shale that you are going to want to be drilling in Fort Worth.
So. What do you do? You install as many of your cronies in positions of power as possible. The few people who bother to vote, work as willing stooges for the Cronies and elect their Top Crony as Mayor of Fort Worth. And even though it is clearly obvious that something is very wrong, the Mayor gets re-elected by a 70% landslide of the 6% who bothered to vote.
Why isn't the FBI investigating Moncrief's Conflicts of Interest? Especially now that even the Great State of Texas is having to recognize that an ever growing body of evidence is showing that the way the Barnett Shale is being drilled by the Cabal of Crony Capitalists, deadly pollutants spewing into the air of Fort Worth and North Texas. Entire towns (DISH) have been run over with noise, air pollution, property destruction, water pollution, dangerous chemicals (like Benzene) and who knows what else.
Now, til it became a known fact that the gas wells are spewing bad stuff into the air, and that there are ways to stop that from happening. Methods that pay for themselves. Methods that the gas drillers don't want to pay for, and which the government, not Texas, not Fort Worth, is not mandating be done, well, til then, I was not as annoyed about all this as I am now.
But now I am TOTALLY annoyed and appalled that there is not a louder demand that something be done. Done now. Moncrief and his cronies need to be run out of town on a Federal Prison Boat Float down the Trinity River.
And then I saw Mayor Mike Moncrief pouring purple water into the Trinity River. And I heard him speak for the first time. And realized what a stooge he actually is. I highly doubt that man has any concept of how ethically challenged he is. I doubt he is able to understand what a Conflict of Interest is. I doubt he'd be able to understand he is part of a localized Crony Capitalism system.
He might know what you mean if you told him he's part of the Fort Worth Good Ol' Boy Network. But, he'd likely take that as a compliment.
