Today Finding Risky Instability Over The Wichita River In Lucy Park
On this final Thursday of the 2025 version of September it was back to Lucy Park I ventured for some pleasantly temperatured salubrious endorphin acquisition gained via high-speed walking.
After one of my earlier visits to Lucy Park, this month, I recollect mentioning that I found the Lucy Park suspension bridge over the Wichita River to be causing a dizzying sensation, due to swaying more than it had in the past, and some of the bridge planks being a bit warped.
Please note the signage seen in today's photo documentation, making note of a new sign which has been added since my last visit.
A close up look at that new sign...
Now, it seems just a bit odd to have one sign, the one which has been there ever since I first saw this suspension bridge, years ago, advising "CAUTION MAXIMUM LOADING 20 PERSONS", whilst adding a new sign indicating the bridge is unstable and risky to cross.
Would the city not face some sort of serious liability if someone was to cross this bridge, seeing only the original sign, not seeing the new, small, highly suspended sign, and then suffer a serious injury of some sort?
Seems to me if the city is thinking the bridge is unstable and risky to cross, that maybe closing access to the risky bridge would be the wise course to take and then proceed to restore the bridge to its former un-risky, stable glory....

Flooding Lucy Park Tuesday Nature Communing
Back to Lucy Park on this final Tuesday of the 2025 version of May. The outer world was pleasantly temperatured today, making for an extremely pleasant Lucy Park salubrious nature communing walk.
As you can see, via the above photo documentation, and below, the Wichita River is running high from the recent rains.
The Lucy Park backwoods jungle is totally flooded, again, rendering it not a pleasant location to wade through.
As you can see, the river has almost reached being high enough to flood over the bridge.
I did not walk too far onto the bridge, due to the fact that the running high, fast moving river, combined with the swinging suspension bridge, renders me dizzy.
I sort of miss walking the Lucy Park backwoods jungle. It has long been my favorite local hiking location.
The jungle likely will not dry out to a walking level for a month or two, that is, if no more flooding rain arrives...

Upgraded Lucy Park Suspension Bridge Open To Traffic
The Lucy Park Suspension Bridge renovation is completed, with the bridge now open to traffic wanting to cross over the Wichita River.
I am not sure I like the new version of side rails, what with it being three cables about a foot apart.
The swaying on the bridge whilst crossing seemed more active than the pre-renovation version. Seems like a little dog could manage to fall off the bridge edge. Or a crawling toddler.
Another extremely windy day today. Perhaps that added to the bridge's swaying action. Gusts reaching almost 50 mph. The temperature high today is predicted to be in the 90s. The wind should make 90 feel not so HOT.
The spacebar on my keyboard went haywire this morning, making for an early visit to Walmart to get a keyboard replacement. It did not occur to me I could use the laptop keyboard which is sitting right in front of me.
I worry these type incidents are indicative of developing dementia. ..

Saturday Lucy Park Suspension Bridge Video Walk Over Wichita River
Last night's almost all night long thunderstorm was the longest and loudest storm so far this year, near as I can remember.
And now, on this next to last Saturday of the 2020 version of May, blue sky has returned with only some big puddles of water and foliage scattered about.
A visit to Lucy Park seemed like a good idea, post-storm. I thought there was a chance sufficient rain fell to render the Wichita River into flood mode, with Lucy Park closed.
But, soon upon arrival at one of the biggest parks in Wichita Falls, when the Wichita River came into view, it was seen to be nowhere being in flood mode, though running high.
Today I used my new phone to make a video. I think this was the first time I have done this with the new phone. The phone seems to make better video than my old video camera used to make, before I tossed it due to it being an antique. The old video camera was just a camera. Not a phone. And it was about ten times the size and weight of the phone.
Anyway, in the video you walk with me across the Lucy Park suspension bridge over the Wichita River. This is not for the squeamish who are afraid of heights whilst walking on something swaying.
