Sunny Sunday At Lucy Park Walking New Circle Trail Section With Ducks

Even though this final Sunday of the 2026 version of August is being Hotter 'N Hell, it was to Lucy Park I opted to venture for my daily nature communing and endorphin acquisition.

I will likely enjoy the air-conditioned comfort of Walmart, later today.

Lucy Park was an attraction today because I'd recently learned a new section of the Circle Trail was now ready to be walked on. That is part of the new section of Circle Trail you see photo documented above. That little bit of blue on the right is the Wichita River.

This new section of the Circle Trail has been years in the making. With its completion I believe there is only one section of the Circle Trail which needs to be completed, which will make the Circle Trail a complete circle. The uncompleted section is by Mount Wichita, along Lake Wichita, and is being stifled by some landowners who do not want the Circle Trail circling through their property.

To access the new section of Circle Trail I parked near the Lucy Park Duck Pond. It has been a few years since I walked in the Lucy Park Duck Pond zone.

As you can see, the Lucy Park Duck Pond sort of looks like a rain forest in Washington's Olympic National Park.

Above I came upon my first duck, today, in the Lucy Park Duck Pond zone. He politely posed for me.

Soon thereafter I found my trail blocked by a big flock of ducks. After asking them nicely they cleared a path for me.

I like the sound of a flock of ducks quacking.

I am looking forward to the coming significantly cooler days, wearing long pants and a sweatshirt. And no need for air conditioning...

Traffic Jam Detours Me To Lucy Park Duck Pond

The second day of May is another perfect weather day in North Texas. Blue sky, zero clouds, barely a breeze.

It was to Lucy Park I ventured today for some nature communing.

Upon arrival I found a traffic jam blocking my way to my regular parking location. So, I detoured to another Lucy Park entry, which had me parking by the Lucy Park Duck Pond.

The Lucy Park Duck Pond is primarily populated with geese. But, the park signage calls it the Lucy Park Duck Pond.

It is a scenic Duck Pond. With several bridges across narrow crossings connecting one pond to the next.

One of the bridges is a slightly treacherous crossing with the bridge deck being highly mobile, making passage difficult for those without a firm understanding. I have a firm understanding, but still find passage over that bridge to be a wobbly undertaking.

Thunderstorming is back on our weather menu, beginning later today, on into the following days.

Yesterday, at noon, the tornado sirens were loudly tested. So, we are primed and ready for some dire weather...

Keeping Warm Coated With Lucy Park Duck Ponders

With the windy wind chill making the outer world at my location feel like the temperature was chilling below freezing there was no way I felt like layering on sufficient outerwear to make rolling my bike wheels a pleasant experience.

But, going on a walk seemed doable, yet still needing sufficient outerwear.

And so I wore a new coat which one of my favorite Washington ladies Amazoned to me a couple days before the most recent Christmas. This coat has two layers of zippers and other accouterments which totally block the intrusion of any cold wind, rain, or other annoyances.

Ironically, walking around Lucy Park today did not seem too cold. And I don't think the super coat had much to do with it. The fact that the wind had died down to dead calm likely helped.

Above, that photo you see is part of the Lucy Park Duck Pond.  This Duck Pond is the best Duck Pond I have ever seen. I think I have mentioned that before. That and the fact that I really have not seen all that many Duck Ponds.

That bridge you see above, crossing from the Wichita Falls mainland to Duck Island, looks totally innocuous.

But, instead of being innocuous, crossing that bridge makes one think it seems like it should be something inside a carnival funhouse.

We are less than a month away from the start of Spring.

I am ready to move on from the running the furnace time of the year to the running the air conditioner time of the year....
