Texas Deep Freeze Begins Big Chill Friday With Snow

Snow is in the forecast for Friday, with the high that day being 42 degrees, as measured by the Fahrenheit method, with a low of 10 degrees.

And, then more snow on Saturday, with the high that day being 14 degrees, again as measured by the Fahrenheit method. With the low on Saturday being a super chilly 6 degrees.

The last time it got so cold, most of Texas lost electrical power. I had to escape to a hotel which had power. When power returned the nightmare was not over. Pipes had frozen, rendered broken and leaking upon thawing.

I was without water for a couple days. I think I may have returned to the hotel. I don't remember.

Today and tomorrow will be above freezing. And then the deep freeze arrives for several days.

I wish I still had cross country skis. I threw them away years ago when the Texas heat delaminated them when I stupidly stored them in a storage closet which was not part of the area which got air-conditioned. That also ruined my roller blades.

I doubt Academy Sports in this town sells cross-country skis, due to there being extremely little demand for such.

The Non-Freezing Last Morning Of The First Month Of 2011 With An Arctic Blastl Heading To North Texas With A Wind Chill Below Zero

Looking out my viewing portal at the dawn of the last day of the first month of 2011 which has arrived 6 degrees above freezing.

If the weather prognosticators are to be believed this will be the last morning, for awhile, that will not be well below freezing, as we are heading into one of the most significant cold spells in North Texas in many years.

Just in time to greet football fans arriving for Sunday's Super Bowl.

Thunderstorms may be booming later today.

Strong winds will be blasting in Tuesday night, bringing the Big Chill, with the wind chill plunging to below zero.

Yesterday, when I saw all the temporary Super Bowl structures built on the former parking lots that surround the Dallas Cowboy Stadium, the first thing that crossed my mind was what if those things get blasted by a windstorm.

If it gets windy during daylight hours I think I'll go hang out on the Stadium Wal-Mart parking lot to watch what happens live.

In the meantime I am not going swimming this morning.

Up Early In Texas On The First Friday Of 2011 Searching For Firewood

I am up early this first Friday of 2011, looking through the bars of my patio prison cell at my hot hot tub, sitting there in the balmy 44 degree heat, waiting to heat me up.

The forecast is looking good for tomorrow's 2nd Annual Tandy Hills Manly Men & Wild Women Hike.

I do not know how many Manly Men & Wild Women are expected to be in attendance tomorrow. Last year the number was in the 100 hikers zone. Plus a few dogs.

I need to get maximum enjoyment out of our current semi-balmy temperatures, before next week's predicted plunge into a Deep Freeze arrives.

I probably should stock up on some firewood in anticipation of a possible power outage during the upcoming Deep Freeze.

Several years ago the power went out during a Deep Freeze, with me finding myself quickly quite cold. I had no firewood. But I did have several big phone books. I figured the phone books had previously been wood. And so should burn and put off some heat.

Which they did. But the residue of the burned phone books remains in my fireplace to this day.

Maybe I can find myself some firewood on the Tandy Hills today. Mesquite should burn with a nice aroma.

In the meantime, I'm going swimming. Talk to you later.
