Earlier today I wondered why a blogging from a couple weeks ago titled A Blobfish Sent To Texas From The Pacific Northwest was showing up on my blog stats.
This afternoon I learned the reason why this Friday the 13th of 2013 has generated interest in the blobfish.
Today on CNN online there is an article titled Blobfish declared world's ugliest animal in which among what we read is....
With the grandiloquence befitting such an occasion, Simon Watt, the British biologist, television personality and "president for life" of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, made the long-anticipated announcement Thursday night.
"The votes have been counted and verified," said Watt. "The mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society is ... the blobfish!"
The blobfish came to my attention, long ago, when someone suggested to me that blobfish bore an uncanny resemblance to a human of our acquaintance.
Now, to me, I think the blobfish is one of those critters that is so ugly it is almost cute. As in almost a cuddly ball of slimy gelatinous goo, with beady eyes and a BIG nose.
Even though I think the blobfish is so ugly it is cute, it pleases me that it is getting the ugly recognition and reputation, it richly deserves....

A Blobfish Sent To Texas From The Pacific Northwest
This afternoon one of my emailers from up near the Canadian border emailed me the piece of art you see to the left and asked the question, "Remind you of anyone?"
Well, years ago I blogged about this very thing, asking the very same question, because this sea creature, known as a blobfish, does bear an uncanny resemblance to a particular Pacific Northwest land creature of dubious distinction and eventual extinction.
The ill-fated blobfish is also fated for extinction. The place blobfish call home is deep underwater off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania.
Just like the PNW land version of the blobfish, the Australian version is made up mostly of gelatinous tissue, with a mass slightly less than water. This allows the blobfish to float slightly above the sea floor without expending much energy. Basically the blobfish barely moves while it sits with its mouth open waiting for dinner to swim in.
Deep sea bottom trawling is what has the blobfish facing extinction.
I do not know if any blobfish have been successfully transferred to any of the world's aquariums. If I knew an aquarium had a blobfish, in house, I'd be prone to visiting.
Below is a collage of some of the blobfish images one sees when one Google's 'blobfish"..........

Tacoma's Fubbo The Hut Mistaken For An Australian/Tasmanian Blobfish
A few minutes ago incoming email from one of my Tacoma Informants included the photo you see here. The TI claimed this is a recent photo of Fubbo the Hut.
I do see the resemblance, but I am almost 100% this is not actually Fubbo the Hut.
For one thing, I've not heard anything about Fubbo being bald.
Fubbo the Hut has recently been caught, again, doing her creepy stalking thing. I think just about anyone on the planet would empathize with how unsettling it would be to have something that looks like Fubbo the Hut stalking them.
What the sad-looking creature in the photo actually is, is a Blobfish. Now, I can clearly see how one might use the word "Blobfish" to refer to Fubbo the Hut. But a Blobfish is actually a real fish.
Blobfish float along the ocean floor off the coasts of Australia and Tasmania, surviving by eating whatever drifts in front of it.
Okay, that is one more eerie similarity to Fubbo the Hut, who also eats whatever drifts in front of it.
