Get Yourself A Smoking Hot Body

Saw that which you see here, this morning, on Facebook, on day 4 of August.

Another scorcher.

I no longer have cold water coming out of the taps.

I have hot water and slightly less hot water.

Fidalgo Drive-In Back Open With Burgers & Dungeness Crab Sandwich

A couple days ago I made mention of the fact that Currently No Burgers At The Fidalgo Drive-In In Anacortes.

This morning in incoming email an email came in from my Favorite Nephew Jason with the above photo and text saying...

Car hop awning has been removed and Fidalgo Drive-in has resumed normal operation.

According to the above photo documentation at the Fidalgo Drive-in, currently, one can have oneself a dungeness crab sandwich for only $15. I do not know if that comes with fries.

It has been awhile since I have had any dungeness crab. If I remember correctly the last time I had myself some dungeness crab was back on summer of 2008, in Tacoma. Mom and dad had driven north from Arizona, part of the roadtrip via the Oregon coast highway, where they bought a couple dungeness crabs.

Mom and dad thought they bought themselves a couple freshly rendered edible dungeness crabs. When they got to Tacoma and went to sample the crab they discovered it had been frozen and was only partially thawed.

Mom and dad considered previously frozen dungeness crab to be inedible.

I am not so picky. So, I had myself a crab feed...

Currently No Burgers At The Fidalgo Drive-In In Anacortes

If I am up north, in Washington, next week, I won't be getting to go to my Favorite Nephew Jason's Fidalgo Drive-in in Anacortes.

A city of Anacortes dump truck hit the awning under which cars park, rendering the awning dangerously damaged. And closing the Fidalgo Drive-in til repairs can be made.

The screen shot above is from an article in an Anacortes online news purveyor, about the mishap. If you look closely at the photo, you will see yellow crime scene type tape blocking the damaged structure.

From the article in that Anacortes online news purveyor (I would include the link to the article, but it turns into one of those paywall deals)...

At about 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, a City of Anacortes garbage truck backed into the awning causing "extensive damage," owner Jason Jones said in an email.

"An equipment damage report has been prepared documenting the minor damage to the truck," Mayor Matt Miller said in an email. "The damage to the drive-in is still being assessed and the city will work with the property owner through our insurance carrier Washington Cities Insurance Authority (WCIA)."

Miller also sent a city building official to look over all the damage to assess for "potential safety concerns," he wrote.

"The restaurant will reopen as soon as emergency repairs are completed," Jones said in his email.

August Air-Conditioned Walmart Walking With Alligator Nuggets

On this first day of August, the outer world at my location was 100 degrees by 11 this morning, heading towards a high today of 111.

I opted for the air-conditioned comfort of Walmart today for salubrious endorphin inducing aerobic stimulation. That, and since the walking was in Walmart, a lot of anthropological observing.

I do not think I ever go to a local Walmart without more than once thinking to myself, does that person not have a mirror? That, and why would that person get a tattoo on that location on that super plus-sized body? And expose it to the world?

Last time in Walmart I came upon a product I'd not seen before, and blogged about it in Cracker Jill Woke Up In Walmart.

Today, at Walmart, in the frozen seafood area, well, actually, the frozen seafood, frozen reptile and frozen amphibian area, next to the frozen Frog Legs I saw that which you see above.

Alligator Nuggets and Filet of Alligator.

Is this reptilian product available only in Southern Walmarts?

I would be surprised if Alligator Nuggets and Filet of Alligator is available at the Walmart in my old home zone of the Skagit Valley.

But, who knows?

Maybe there are a lot of people all over the country with a hankering for alligator...

Cracker Jill Woke Up In Walmart

Saw that which you see here, this final Sunday morning of July, in Walmart.

Cracker Jill.

I quickly took the photo and did not notice til getting the photo of the phone that Cracker Jill is Celebrating Women in Sports. And more specifically, the Women's World Cup currently underway.

When I saw the Cracker Jill display my first thought was wondering why the right wing nutjobs have not fussed over Cracker Jill replacing Cracker Jack in their relentless repetitive making fools of themselves over  this that or the other empathetic thing being "woke".

Maybe Cracker Jill is not yet in distribution all across the country.

It has been decades since I had Cracker Jack popcorn.

I wonder if Cracker Jill uses the same recipe.

Perhaps having no nuts...

Is Wichita Falls Extra Hot Due To A Heat Dome or Bad Luck?

Interesting article in this Saturday morning's Wichita Falls Times News Record about The Falls leading in the heat marathon.

Apparently I am living in the HOTTEST town around.

One big benefit of it being so HOT for so many days, with no rain, is the humidity has dropped, making it feel less HOT.

But, something about this ongoing heatwave has caused a plague of crickets to invade interior spaces. That plague seems to have abated in the last couple days. I currently hear no crickets chirping.

The Times New Record article about the current overly HOT situation in Wichita Falls in its entirety...

The Falls leading in the heat marathon

What is it about Wichita Falls? A heat dome? Secret government experiment? Aliens? Bad luck?

Whatever it is, the city holds the dubious distinction of being the hottest town among its neighbors this summer.

The National Weather Service in Norman, Okla. -- whose territory includes a big chuck of North Texas – looked at the records and found some interesting figures.

Oklahoma City, which is about 110 miles from the Falls as the crow flies (if crows fly in this heat), has had just one day this summer where the temperature hit 100 degrees.

One.

A little farther south where it might be expected things would be hotter, the weather service for Dallas-Fort Worth reports 19 days of 100 degrees or more.

Wichita Falls?

Standing at 24 days on Friday -- and counting. Three of those days reached 110 degrees.

Wichita Falls typically gets 32-33 days per year where the daytime high hits or passes 100 degrees. The last day for triple-digit highs on average is Sept. 6, although 100-plus heat has been known to go into middle October.

That means Wichitans likely have another five or six weeks of hot weather ahead.

The NWS predicts 106 to 108 highs here for the next week.

DFW and OKC may be bigger, but when it comes to heat, the Falls can’t be beat.

Theo & Ruby Take Their Parental Units To See Taylor Swift In Seattle

Incoming email last night, with four photos.

Apparently, Theo & Ruby joined the throngs causing traffic jams in Seattle this weekend, with some of the traffic jamming caused by Taylor Swift and her Eras Tour playing where the Seattle Seahawks play football.

The four photos along with the explanatory text, with the first explanatory text referencing the above photo...

The twins and one of their besties plus Kristin and Dana and I joined 74,000 (give or take) of our closest friends for a little concert at Lumen Field last night. It was amazing.

They handed out wristbands with two lights that lit up at various times in many colors, all along with the music. Made the stadium look incredible.

The giant screen was also incredible. The quality of the image was mind-blowing.

And there were lots of special effects - the heat from these flames was startling!

We had a great time. Because you’ll ask: David is not a Swiftie and so he stayed home with the poodles.

The Kingdome replacement sure is an upgrade from that long gone venue. I only went to a couple football games in the Kingdome, several baseball games, and one Seattle Supersonic game when they played in the Kingdome whilst their regular venue was being renovated.

I guess I will go to the Taylor Swift show when it comes to Wichita Falls....

Wichita Falls Dump Truck Mayhem With Broken Pole Big Bang & Fireball

What you are looking at here is the Saturday afternoon view from my bedroom window. I was in the kitchen this morning when I heard a loud noise that sounded like the garbage truck dropping a garbage bin, with the noise much louder than the norm.

I looked out the window and just as I saw the garbage truck, across the street from my abode I heard a loud explosive popping noise, and then saw a fireball.

I could see the dump truck had some snagged lines from a power pole, breaking the pole near the bottom, causing the pole to lean over.

My power flickered off for a second or two.

Soon sirens were blaring, followed by the arrival of a firetruck and other emergency vehicles. A few hours later the repair was underway, and is ongoing.

This sort of thing passes for excitement in this dull little town...

The Return Of The Original Watermelon Festival At Downtown Wichita Falls Original Farmers Market

A year, or so, ago, a dispute at the downtown Wichita Falls Farmers Market caused a rogue group to split from the existing Farmers Market to start up a new Farmers Market a few blocks north of the original Farmers Market.

The rogue Farmers Market is not in a nice facility, with an outdoor plaza, such as exists at the original Wichita Falls Farmers Market.

Last week this town's only newspaper, the Wichita Falls Times News Record had a headline saying Watermelon Festival returns to Wichita Falls Farmers Market.

The Watermelon Festival is the funnest festival I've experienced in this town. So, seeing that headline made me happy.

And then I read the article.

The Watermelon Festival took place this past Saturday at the rogue Farmers Market, not the original Farmers Market.

So, I did not go get myself some watermelon on Saturday.

Then yesterday I got an email which included that graphic you see above. Make note of "The Original" part of the graphic.

Here is the text from the Watermelon Festival email...

Watermelon pie? That does not sound good to me. Watermelon margaritas and frozen watermelon wine drinks might be tasty.

COVID killed the Watermelon Festival, along with other festivals, like the Blackberry Festival, which was another fun one, with real tasty blackberry cobbler.

The watermelon seed spitting contest is amusing. I do not remember seeing a watermelon eating contest at the previous Watermelon Festivals I've been to. I have zero clue was a watermelon volcano might be, or mini catapults.

Next Saturday is currently scheduled to be HOT, over 100. If I remember correctly the interior space at the Farmers Market is air conditioned. That or it has multiple ceiling fans.

Chill In The Air Takes Me Back To Lucy Park With Grasshoppers

We are having a brief break from the outer world being heated to over 100 degrees. So, today it was not to the air-conditioned comfort of Walmart I ventured for some high speed walking, it was back to Lucy Park I drove.

After day after day after day being heated over 100 degrees, being outside with the temperature only in the 80s, with a strong wind blowing, it felt relatively chilly.

Tomorrow is scheduled to be even chillier. And then on Sunday we are back in the HOT frying pan.

I have zero clue what type flowers the yellow blooms are, you see above. Lucy Park has a lot of flowers blooming.

With the temperature almost chilly I figured cold blooded slithering things would not be moving too fast.

So, I hiked the Lucy Park backwoods jungle today. I saw no snakes. But did see a lot of grasshoppers.

Grasshoppers are annoying. But, not as annoying as the crickets that have somehow been invading my interior space.

A couple days ago I made mention of a circus arriving in town, in a blog post titled The Portugal Circus Comes To A Wichita Falls Mall Parking Lot.

In that blog post I made mention of the fact that I'd heard nothing of this circus via local media, not in print, on TV, online or the radio.

I also made mention of the fact that it seemed like it would be unlikely this circus would have elephants, lions, tigers and bear, or other critters on associates with a circus.

Well, this morning I heard a radio advertisement for the Portugal Circus. No mention was made of any critters. Just some mention of circus acts, and I think clowns. And that admission is free for those 2 years old and younger.

I can't imagine many toddlers waddle up to the admission gate to get in free....
