Crossing A Red River To Oklahoma's Kiowa Casino With No Morningstar Buffet

Most mornings for a few minutes I find myself listening to BOB Radio, a Wichita Falls FM radio station called BOB for reasons unknown to me.

Almost every one of those mornings I hear a BOB advertisement enticing me to venture north to Oklahoma to the Kiowa Red River Casino to partake of the vittles at Morningstar Buffet or Morningstar Steak.

Til yesterday I successfully resisted BOB's Kiowa enticements.

Saturday morning I attended the Don't Fence Me In event. After that I decided to head north, to the Sheppard Air Force Base zone to find the El Mejicano Restaurant & Cantina, which is the location of a world, well, locally renowned Mexican food buffet. I was in need of locating this location for an upcoming happy birthday event later this month.

After finding El Mejicano a road sign indicated I was a short distance south of the town of Burkburnett.  I had not ventured this far north since my arrival  in Wichita Falls over a year ago. So, it was on to Burkburnett I headed.

Burkburnett appeared to have maybe seen more prosperous days, likely during an oil boom years ago. The northern city limit of Burkburnett is the Red River. The Red River is what separates Texas from Oklahoma. Just north of the Red River, at the first exit off 277 one soon finds the aforementioned Kiowa Red River Casino.

Last month I was in a casino in Arizona a couple times, at the Ak-Chin Casino in Maricopa.

I did not know what to expect from Oklahoma's Kiowa Casino. The only Oklahoma casino I had been in previously was Winstar World Casino Resort, which is supposedly the world's biggest.

I have no way of knowing, but after visiting the Kiowa Casino I'm thinking it may be the world's smallest casino. However, if that were the case I would think that fact would be bragged about.

Walking into the Kiowa Casino I did see something I saw in  the Ak-Chin Casino, as in giant video game-like slot machines, such as the Game of Thrones one you see below, which I saw yesterday in the Kiowa Casino, and also saw last month in Arizona.

However, unlike the Ak-Chin Casino, and every other casino I have ever been in, in Washington, Nevada, Arizona, California, Louisiana or New Mexico, this particular Oklahoma casino was dead quiet. None  of the usual cacophony of noise coming from the gambling machines.

The silence was eerie.

There were not many vehicles in  the parking  lot,  and not many people inside the casino. The Morningstar Buffet, coming up on noon, had about 10 people in buffet mode. I had never eye witnessed a casino buffet with such a scarcity of customers.

Morningstar Steak, which I heard BOB touting this morning, was closed.

I have long thought one day I needed to venture north to the Kiowa Casino Morningstar Buffet.

When I lived in Washington one of my favorite feeding locations was venturing north to the buffet as Harrah's Skagit Casino.

However, somehow I do not think venturing north to the Kiowa Morningstar Buffet is going  to become one of my favorite feeding locations....

Spencer Jack Gambles With Tulalip Orcas

Spencer Jack took me on an after school adventure to Marysville.

We spotted 3 Orcas and countless tribal gaming machines.

Marysville is a town about 35 miles south of Spencer Jack's home abode of Mount Vernon. Prior to moving to Arizona, Marysville was the home zone of my Favorite Nephews Christopher and Jeremy, better known as CJ and JR.

The Tulalip Resort Casino is one of Washington's biggest casino complexes.

The Tulalip's are also host to one of the biggest fireworks selling complexes in Washington, and the world. This explosive Tulalip operation is called Boom City Fireworks.

There are a couple tribal casinos close to my current Texas abode, about 15 miles north, across the Red River, in Oklahoma.

The Kiowa Red River Casino, and the Comanche Red River Hotel Casino.

Since I have been at my current Wichita Falls location I have not ventured across the Red River into Oklahoma Indian Territory to visit the Kiowa and Comanche tribe's casinos.

Since I have not visited either of my nearby casinos I do not know if either have any Orca Pods frolicking for casino goers. But, I suspect not.

It is likely the closest Orcas to be found at this part of the planet are to the south a few hundred miles, in San Antonio, at Sea World.

In the short message about visiting the Tulalip Orcas and gaming machines no mention was made of whether or not there was any slot machine playing.

The summer prior to me moving to Texas Spencer Jack's dad and uncle, my Favorite Nephew Joey, took me to Las Vegas, where they made me their surrogate gambler, directing me at Keno and Video Poker.

I suspect Spencer Jack is continuing the family tradition of surreptitious gambling, using his dad as a surrogate...

Kiowa Red River Casino & Whataburger

I've had me a day. A loud thunderstorm had me up well before 5 this morning. By 6am I was swimming in the rain. Then I remembered Sunday's lightning strike fire and how the occupants described the electricity zapping through the building, popping out of outlets and light switches.

Even though the pool is at a low spot and the lightning did not seem too close, I cut the swimming short.

For lunch today I took a virtual trip up to Wichita Falls, then headed north across the Red River to the town of Devol where the Kiowa Nation runs the Kiowa Red River Casino.

I'm not a huge fan of gambling. I can be entertained for a short duration by slot machines and video poker. But not of the sort allowed in the Oklahoma casinos.

One thing I do like in a casino is a good buffet. Morningstar is a popular Kiowa name, so the Kiowa Casino's buffet is the Morningstar Buffet. How was the buffet? After the Zorro's Buffet debacle, I no longer share my opinion about such matters.

Absolutely total change of subject. This morning I got a comment to a blogging about Whataburger. The comment was from "Anonymous," who wanted a previous commenter, Jeremy B., to post his email address, because "Anonymous" would like to ask Jeremy B. about his Whataburger experiences.

When I read what "Anonymous" was asking I wondered why he/she did not post his/her email address so Jeremy B. could reach him/her. Why would "Anonymous" think Jeremy B. is going to be reading his comment asking for Jeremy B.'s email address? That's just goofy.
