President's Day Walking With The Sikes Lake Birds

The unwanted, unexpected short return of Winter, the past couple days, with sub-freezing temperatures, and strong wind, has abated, rendering the outer world once again pleasant, and Spring-like.

Summer-like is predicted to return in a couple days, with the temperature in the 80s.

So it was to nearby Sikes Lake I ventured today, for a salubrious walk around the lake. When I came to the coffer dam, you see above, several dozen seagulls were flocking together, next to several dozen geese, flocking together.

By the time I got my phone out of my pocket and the camera turned on, the birds panicked and took to the air.

The seagulls flew north, the geese flew south. Both flocks did not fly far before landing on the lake. And then quickly returned to their coffer dam roost as I continued walking.

Time flying quickly by seems to be picking up speed. We are already in the last full week of the second month of 2024.

Soon it will be the swimming suit time of the year. I need to get in shape so I can fit into my various swimming suits.

I hope everyone is having a mighty fine fun President's Day, it being one of the most festive holidays of the year...

Celebrating President's Day With The Best Hamburger In Anacortes

I did not realize today was Presidents' Day til a couple minutes ago when I called a public employee to find myself listening to a message telling me that federal offices are closed today due to this aforementioned holiday.

My neurons are currently a bit worn out from altering the HTML on almost 400 webpages. I mention this so as to explain my befuddlement over something which probably would not befuddle me if my neurons were not exhausted.

What I am befuddled about is what the proper punctuation for today's holiday is. I am so worn out I'm not even sure "punctuation" is the correct word. So, is it Presidents Day? President's Day? Or Presidents' Day?

Most seem to be putting the apostrophe at the end of Presidents, indicating all Presidents are in possession of this day. But, does it not work without an apostrophe? Simply indicating this is Presidents Day, as in a day celebrating all those American presidents who have presiding over this once great land? Does it not also work to do the apostrophe "s" thing? As in President's Day, meaning this is each and every single President's Day?

Like I said, I'm being a bit befuddled.

Speaking of voting for something important, like voting for American Presidents, this morning I learned the town in my old home zone known as Anacortes had a city wide vote which determined that Spencer Jack's dad's restaurant, the Fidalgo Drive-In, makes the BEST HAMBURGER in Anacortes. I  blogged about this meaty distinction this morning on my Washington blog in Spencer Jack's Fidalgo Drive-In Hamburger Voted Best in Anacortes.

Back to the American Presidents and their special day.

The last time I think I blogged about this important American Presidents subject was on one of my other blogs, back last August, in a blogging titled The 22nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution Needs to be Repealed.

In that blogging I thought I made an extremely solid case as to why the 22nd Amendment should be repealed. And yet, here it is over six months later and that amendment is still part of the U.S. Constitution.

This really makes me think it is time to consider that maybe it is time for me to cease trying to change this world for the better and just give up.

In the meantime I am having myself a mighty fine time celebrating Presidents Day, with or without an apostrophe...

A Tandy Hills President's Day Hike With A Toppled Hoodoo

I was back on the Tandy Hills today for my annual President's Day hike.

Hours before my annual President's Day hike I had my annual President's Day hot tub hydrotherapy session with the added bonus of having my first successful swimming pool bout of the new year, with two pool dips of duration long enough that actual swimming took place before escaping back to the warmth of the hot tub.

On my last visit to the Tandy Hills, two days ago, I came upon what I thought was Tandy Hills Hoodoo IV.

Tandy Hills frequent hiker Stenotrophomonas then informed that there had been rises and falls of Hoodoos that I had not seen, with Stenotrophomonas estimating that the Saturday Tandy Hills Hoodoo was Hoodoo number VIII or IX.

Well, whatever number that Saturday Hoodoo was, by President's Day it was a toppled Hoodoo, the remains of which you see above.

A forensic exam of a couple of the previous fallen Hoodoos made me think the destruction was manmade, due to the fact that the boulders from which the Hoodoos had been constructed had been thrown around, helter skelter.

A forensic exam of this latest fallen Hoodoo seems to indicate it toppled by natural means, with the boulders appearing in order on the ground, toppled likely by the means by which Stenotrophomonas thought the Hoodoos have toppled, that being either from the wind or fracquakes. We have had a lot of wind blowing lately. And fracquakes, though I don't know if any have shaken the Tandy Hills zone.

Anyway, I had myself a mighty fine time on this mighty fine President's Day with about an hour of high speed hill hiking.

And now I am hungry.

My annual President's Day lunch is in the oven. Chile relleno casserole, corn bread with diced poblano, cole slaw and beans. Everyone knows this was George Washington's favorite lunch, hence it being on my President's Day menu....

President's Day In Texas Thinking About Tornadoes & Avalanches

Looking through my primary viewing portal on the outer world on this 20th day of the 2nd month of 2012 it appears that this 3rd Monday of the month is a bit cloudy.

The weather predictors are predicting it will be windy today.

I saw no confirmation whilst reading any of my online news sources this morning, but I believe today is President's Day. George and Abe used to get their own special days on their birthdays. Now they have to share with all the other presidents.

Yesterday's news brought news of a danger I've not been exposed to since I moved to Texas.

On Sunday more than a dozen skiers in the Stevens Pass zone of Washington's Cascade Mountains got caught in a massive avalanche, with 3 of the skiers killed.

I don't think there is any place in Texas where you might find yourself caught in an avalanche.

Every location on the planet has its own special dangers. I never heard a tornado siren when I lived in Washington.
