Are Those Elsie Hotpepper's High Heels On Cannon Beach?

Saw the above on Facebook this morning of the first day of the 2021 version of March.

Apparently Miss Kellie, who is the opposite of me, in that she is a Texan currently exiled in the Pacific Northwest, specifically on an island in Puget Sound in Washington. With me, a Washingtonian currently in exile in Texas, with nary a real island to be seen within many miles.

Miss Kellie's fellow Texan, Elsie Hotpepper, who has never been exiled to anywhere other than the town she grew up in, has long had a relationship with Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast.

Elsie Hotpepper's relationship with Cannon Beach basically grew from a visit to that town several years ago, after which the Hotpepper was haunted by the iconic image of Cannon Beach, that being Haystack Rock, which seemed to follow Elsie Hotpepper every where she went, including back to Texas.

I have not heard from Elsie Hotpepper for a day or two or three. She has been a bit stir crazy cranky of late, just like most of us exiled in Texas, after losing power, water and peace of mind due to the sub-zero results of a Polar Vortex taking over the Lone Star State for over a week.

So, for all I know, Elsie Hotpepper hopped a plane to Portland and drove herself to Cannon Beach, where she beached her high heel ruby slippers to have herself a bracing skinny dip in the cold Pacific.

And then forgot to pick up her shoes when she ran back out of the water to seek heat in the nearest warming hut.

Yeah, I'm sure that is the explanation for the random red high heels on Cannon Beach...

The Curious Case Of Elsie Hotpepper's Oregon Rock Stalker

A couple years ago lifelong Texan, Elsie Hotpepper, ventured to the west coast state of Oregon.

I do not know if this trip to the west coast was Elsie's first visit to 21st century America, or just the latest of many trips to one of the non-Texas, modern, regions of America.

What I do know is Elsie Hotpepper checked into a Portland hotel. And in her room she saw a big piece of artwork hanging on a wall.

A day or two or three later Elsie Hotpepper ventured to the Pacific Ocean, to the fabled Oregon Coast.

Eventually Elsie came to the town known as Cannon Beach.

At Cannon Beach Elsie Hotpepper saw that which had inspired the piece of artwork she found hanging on her hotel room wall.

Haystack Rock.

Sort of an iconic symbol of the Oregon coast.

And then that Oregon rock began to stalk Elsie Hotpepper.

Haystack Rock followed Elsie to Portland International on her flight out, with a large piece of Haystack Rock artwork hanging overhead as Elsie made her way through security.

On her way back to Texas, Elsie way laid  to visit a friend in Colorado. Entering that friend's Colorado abode Elsie Hotpepper was startled to see a big picture of Haystack Rock hanging on her friend's wall.

I can't remember all the details, but when Elsie Hotpepper finally made her way back to the D/FW zone she soon found herself stalked by multiple iterations of Haystack Rock. If I remember right, one Haystack Rock iteration was in Elsie's mom's bathroom.

And now, today, I suddenly realized Elsie Hotpepper's stalking rock is stalking me.

Regularly.

My computer cycles various background images, to which I pay little attention. Today nothing was blocking the view on my secondary screen, with me realizing I was looking at Elsie Hotpepper's stalking rock.

That is a screen cap of such above.

And now, just as I typed "screen  cap of such above" Elsie Hotpepper's stalker rock cycled in to view again....

Weather Related Visual Humble Bragging From Oregon's Cannon Beach

Continuing with today's theme of weather related humble bragging. That which you see above comes via a web insta-cam from my Scott cousin, currently residing in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Which would seem to make that Cannon Beach you are looking at above, which would make that the Pacific Ocean on the left.

After seeing the above picture I Facebook commented that, "This Oregon Coast photo is causing me Ocean Envy. I think I have only seen the ocean once this century. Way back in 2004. At Ocean Shores....."

The above scene  is quite dramatically different than the scene I am looking at from  my computer room window, where remnants of snow and ice remain under a cloudy gray sky, with no ocean for hundreds of miles.

I was fairly certain I was looking at Cannon Beach in the picture, but to confirm that such was the case I inquired of my Scott cousin if that was the Cannon Beach rock. My Scott cousin then informed me that that rock is Haystack Rock, of which there are many on the Oregon Coast. So, I am a little confused. Is the name of this formation Haystack Rock? Or are all such geological formations known as haystack rocks?

What I do know for certain is the Texas tamale known as Elsie Hotpepper visited Cannon Beach a couple years ago and came away from that visit obsessed with Cannon Beach's Haystack Rock, with that rock seeming to follow Elsie Hotpepper all over Texas and beyond.

I believe Elsie Hotpepper is planning a pilgrimage back to Haystack Rock this coming summer. I hope Elsie takes me with her so I can visit my Scott cousin at his Cannon Beach location....
