I made it to Oakland Lake Park today for a very windy walk around Fosdic Lake.
The wind was blowing from the south. Which seemed odd since we are scheduled to get some very cold air later today from the north.
Right now it is 53 with the wind gusting in the 20 plus mph zone.
The current plan is for tomorrow to get to a low of 6, with a strong wind making it feel way below sub-zero.
With snow.
Will this be a blizzard? I've only experienced one blizzard. In October, back in the 1990s, in a log cabin on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.
I am stocked up on vittles. I've got 10 sticks of firewood in case the power goes out again. I've got several containers filled with water in case the water disappears again.
On a totally different note, did you get the news that El Paso is the 5th Most Romantic City in America? And even weirder, that Tacoma is the #1 Most Romantic City in America. The Most Romantic City in America List is a Valentines Day thing.
Why is Fort Worth not on this list? We are very romantic in this town.

Miss Puerto Rico's Nephew Oscar Meets With President Obama

Last week the President had been in El Paso. He visited the troops at Fort Bliss.
Miss Puerto Rico's brother, Tito, is in the army. He served 2 tours in Iraq. Tito is currently stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas.
Tito is married to Sonia. Sonia was a beauty queen in Puerto Rico. If I remember right, she was runner up in the Miss Puerto Rico contest. I have met Sonia. She is definitely beauty queen material.
Sonia and Tito have 3 kids, Jose, Fernando and Oscar. I have met the kids. Oscar is the youngest and a real smart little guy.
When President Obama came to El Paso, 2 El Paso school kids were selected to meet the President. Oscar was one of the 2 kids.
The meeting took place on the Fort Bliss base. Tito was able to attend. Sonia was not allowed. So, Tito used his smart phone to stream video of their son meeting the President of the United States, to Sonia, then Sonia sent text message updates to Miss Puerto Rico.
I do not know what President Obama and Oscar talked about. I think Oscar would make a good advisor to President Obama. I think the President could use some good advice.

Men's Health: Five Of The 10 Fattest Cities Are In Texas

The current issue of Men's Health Magazine has yet one more of those ubiquitous lists, listing, this time, the Fattest Cities in America, from #1 to 100.
From the Men's Health website...
"Go to Google Maps, type in "United States," and you'll be reminded of just how big Texas is. But what you can't see is the size of the state's citizenry: Five Lone Star cities are among the nation's fattest, with Corpulent Christi at the top."
Joining Corpulent Christi in the Top Ten from Texas are #3 El Paso, #4 Dallas, #7 San Antonio and #9 Houston. All received a Grade of F, except for Houston, which got a D-.
Also on the list from Texas, but extremely lean, is Austin, at #97. Getting an A grade, along with Seattle at #98. Only Seattle, Washington, D.C., Burlington, Vermont and San Francisco are skinnier than Austin.
Other Texas towns on the list are # 13 Lubbock with a D- Grade, #54 Arlington with a C+ and #66 Fort Worth with a B-.
Some optimistic Obesity News for Texas is that NBC's Biggest Loser reality TV show is going to help Texas lose some of its poundage, promising to help America's 2nd biggest state shrink.
Currently, I am in Fort Worth, which, according to Men's Health, is almost as skinny as Austin. I am guessing it is all those natives constantly hiking all over the Tandy Hills that keeps Fort Worth from ballooning to a Dallas/Arlington size of bigness.
