For the third morning in a row I have found myself feeling like Mr. Energy. This morning whilst swimming I was pondering what possible variables in my regularly repetitive regime might account for this Era of Good Feelings.
Eventually the pondering led me to consider that Ginger may be the cause of my current high energy modus operandi.
No, by Ginger I am not referring to the movie star on Gilligan's Island, nor am I referring to my sister's BFF who lives in Marysville, Washington.
By Ginger I am referring to the rhizome of the plant Zingiber.
A week or so ago I got myself some fresh Ginger at Town Talk. A couple days after that I was perusing my bookshelf seeking something to read and found a book I did not remember having titled "The Doctors Book of Food Remedies".
In the Food Remedies book, in the section about Ginger, the claim is made that Ginger has cancer fighting properties, can provide migraine relief, motion sickness relief and help ease the aches and pains of arthritis.
So, yesterday, after riding my bike a long distance over tricky trails at Gateway Park, my finger joints were aching. As were my foot joints, well, toes. For lunch I made stir-fry in which grated Ginger was added. Plus I had pickled Ginger on the side.
After lunch my aching joints started feeling better.
In the early evening I had a couple glasses of Iced Tea, made in a big Sun Tea jar. I make herbal tea consisting of Kava Kava, Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer, Sleepytime, Peppermint and others.
And, in addition to the herbal teas I boiled about a half cup of grated Ginger and then added the liquid to the tea.
That added Ginger liquid is surprisingly potent.
And now this morning, I was in the pool when I realized my joints were no longer aching, which caused the light bulb to come on in my dim bulb brain thinking maybe it is the Ginger which has been turning me into a Mr. Energy who is feeling mighty fine. And aching less.
So, I have new pot of Sun Tea infused with Ginger out brewing on the patio. And Garbanzos brewing in the crockpot, to be made into hummus, with a lot of Garlic, which is another food remedy the doctors recommend in The Doctors Book of Food Remedies....

Hiking The Tandy Hills Thinking About Fuji Apples & Cool Pools
On this First Day of the Spring of 2013 I was in the cool pool swimming when the sun came up. It has been a long time since I've been in the pool when the sun comes up.
I think swimming in the cool pool helps abate my sore arthritic joints. Because the last several days my sore arthritic joints have been being much less sore.
One behavioral variable that could account for this diminished soreness is the increase in time spent in the cool pool.
With another behavior variable being I've been consuming a lot of Fuji apples.
Maybe the combo of these two variables is the magic soreness reducer.
I said earlier today that I thought I would be celebrating the arrival of Spring by getting in some salubrious endorphin inducing aerobic stimulation via hill hiking on the Tandy Hills.
And so I did. The hills were particularly pleasant today. In the picture you are looking towards the top of the trail that leads to the View Street Trail from Tandy Falls. My photography skills never do justice to how steep a hill actually looks. Or how cute an armadillo looks.
This Tandy Hills should be becoming alive with color soon. The 2013 Power to the Prairie Festival is just one week and one month from now, happening on the Tandy Hills the last Saturday of next month, in other words, on April 27.
I found out last night that Spencer Jack, his dad and his girl friend, Brittney, are going to be in the Phoenix zone the first week of April. I did not learn this directly from Spencer Jack, his dad or girl friend, but instead learned this from Spencer Jack's glamorous grandma, she being my favorite ex-sister-in-law.
My mom and dad have not mentioned, to me, that Spencer Jack is coming to town. Maybe the visit is supposed to be a surprise and mom and dad have not been informed that their one and only great grandson is heading their way. No danger of the Internet spoiling that surprise. My mom and dad killed the Internet in their house since my last visit.
I do not believe the killing of my mom and dad's Internet connection is related to my visit.....

Aches & Pains & Cold Days In Texas

I hate it when 'new and improved' isn't.
I did not go swimming this morning because I decided this is a take it easy day, due to being a bit on the sore side, thanks, I think, to both a bike wreck and some new pool exercises the Scrabble Queen of Washington taught me.
I hate the aches and pains of being elderly. I think I may be experiencing the early signs of arthritis in my hands. It actually hurts to type. Gripping my bike's handlebars seems to be what's got my hands in hurt mode.
It got down to 50 last night. I read in the Seattle P-I this morning that the coldest La Nina in 50 years has formed near the equator. When this happens the Pacific sends real bad storms to the northwest, as in cold and wet with a lot of snow in the mountains.
I do not know how La Nina affects Texas. I suspect we are going to have a cold winter here, too, because even though fall is only a few days old, it is already being colder than I remember past falls being here.
It is time to take another dose of Ibuprofen.
